INSTITUTE OF TEACHER EDUCATION
The Indian Institute of Teacher Education (IITE) is a state university dedicated to teacher education, established in 2010 through an act of the Government of Gujarat. Narendra Modi, who served as Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014, was the main proponent behind the institute's creation, with a vision of exporting teachers from India. The curriculum was designed by a team of experts led by Kireet Joshi. IITE offers a range of programmes, including undergraduate teacher education programmes such as a 4-year integrated B.Sc.-B.Ed., a 4-year integrated B.A.-B.Ed., and a 2-year B.Ed. at affiliated colleges. It also offers postgraduate teacher education programmes including a 3-year integrated M.Sc./M.A.-M.Ed., a 3-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed., and a 2-year M.Ed. at affiliated colleges, along with a Ph.D. research programme in education. Admission to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes requires candidates to appear in the Integrated Test for Teacher Trainee (i3T) conducted by IITE, securing a minimum of 50% marks, with admissions based on a merit list prepared from i3T scores.
