Government College for Women , Gohana (Sonepat)

Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women is a public women's medical college situated at Khanpur Kalan in Gohana, Sonepat district, Haryana, India. It holds the distinction of being the first women's Government Medical College established in independent India and the first such institution in North India since Delhi's Lady Hardinge Medical College, founded in 1914. The college was inaugurated on International Women's Day, 2013, by Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi. Its establishment was first announced in 2008 by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda under the Bhagat Phool Singh Women's University, though it later received affiliation from the Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences. Sonia Gandhi laid the foundation stone on 1 March 2009. The associated hospital became operational in 2011 with 100 beds and 21 doctors, growing to 450 beds and 211 doctors by March 2013. The campus spans 88 acres and was built at a cost of ₹700 crores. The college offers MBBS courses, is recognised by the National Medical Commission, and admits students based on merit through the National Eligibility and Entrance Test. Notable alumna Manushi Chhillar won the Miss World 2017 pageant.
