NIE Institute of Technology, MYSORE

The National Institute of Engineering (NIE) is a grant-in-aid engineering college in Mysore, Karnataka, India, established in 1946 with diploma programs in Civil Engineering. Founded by S. Ramaswamy, D. V. Narasimha Rao and T. Ramarao, it became the second engineering college in Karnataka and the first in Mysore, graduating its first Civil Engineering batch in 1953. A Golden Jubilee Complex was completed in 1996, and in 2004 the college received World Bank aid under the TEQIP project to strengthen Centres of Excellence. In 2007, NIE attained autonomy under Visvesvaraya Technological University, and in 2011 received further World Bank aid under TEQIP-II for postgraduate programs. In 2019, the Karnataka government approved private university status for NIE, but the plan was later cancelled due to financial constraints, and NIE remains an autonomous institute under VTU. The campus, spread across 25 acres on Mananthavady Road and Koorgalli, includes an Administrative Block, the Golden Jubilee Block (operational since 2000), and the Diamond Jubilee Sports Complex (2009). NIE was ranked in the 201–250 band among engineering colleges in India by NIRF in 2022. Notable alumni include N. R. Narayana Murthy, Kumar Malavalli, and E. A. S. Prasanna.
