Nabadwip Vidyasagar College
Nabadwip Vidyasagar College was founded on 5 March 1942 as a branch of Calcutta Vidyasagar College, established due to disruptions caused by World War II. Initially housed at Nabadwip Hindu School, it operated under a local committee led by Prof. Madhab Das Chakrabarty. The college gained independent status, a full-fledged Governing Body, and permanent affiliation from the University of Calcutta on 10 September 1948, under Principal Prof. J.K. Chowdhury. Since 1999, it has been affiliated with the University of Kalyani. Located in the historically significant town of Nabadwip, once known as the 'Oxford of the East,' the college offers undergraduate programs in eighteen major subjects across Arts, Commerce, and Science streams, including Bengali, English, History, Philosophy, Accountancy, Botany, Chemistry, and more. It also offers a postgraduate program in Sanskrit and four M.A. programs through Distance and Online Learning (DODL) mode in Bengali, English, History, and Education. The college has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a Grade B in three cycles: 2007, 2017, and 2023, with the latest accreditation valid until 2028.
