CENTRAL INSTITUTE OF PLASTICS ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
The Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology, later renamed the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET), is an autonomous institution functioning under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. It was established in 1968 at Chennai in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Labor Organization (ILO). The institute was created to develop skilled manpower in various disciplines of Plastics Engineering & Technology, as no similar institute existed in the country at the time. CIPET currently operates 43 operational centres across India, with nine more centres in the process of establishment, serving the needs of the polymer and allied industries. It offers specialized academic and skill development training programs in Polymer Science & Technology, aiming to produce qualified human resources with entrepreneurial qualities. The institute also provides technology support through consultancy services in design, tooling, plastics processing, testing, and quality assurance, along with dedicated research and development wings focused on plastic and polymeric materials. Admission to CIPET's centers is conducted through a joint entrance examination held annually.
