NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DESIGN ANDHRA PRADESH

National Institute of Design, Andhra Pradesh (NID-AP) is a design school and Institute of National Importance located at Sakhamuru, Amaravati, in Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh. It operates as an autonomous body under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Established on 7 September 2015, it was the second autonomous design institute created after the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, following the government's 2007 National Design Policy, which proposed four additional NIDs. Initially known as NID Vijayawada and later NID Amaravati, it was ultimately named NID Andhra Pradesh. Until December 2023, it operated from a transit campus at Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, before moving to its permanent 50-acre campus in Amaravati in early 2024. The institute offers a four-year Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program with specializations in Industrial Design, Communication Design, and Textile and Apparel Design, following the passage of the National Institute of Design Act 2019, replacing the earlier Graduate Diploma Program in Design. The course has 75 total seats. Its transit campus included studios, a Knowledge Management Centre (library), IT labs, and full-time internet access for students.
