Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health

Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health is a premier organization promoting tertiary level Child Health Care services in Karnataka, India. It is a government-run referral centre, registered as an autonomous body under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act 1960, and functions under the Ministry of Medical Education, Government of Karnataka. Located in Jayanagar 1st Block, Bangalore, the hospital has 475 beds, including a 35-bed paediatric critical care unit and a 40-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit accredited as Level 3B by the National Neonatology Forum, India. It offers paediatric emergency and critical care services supported by laboratory and blood-bank facilities. The institute originated from the Benakappa Children's Trust Hospital, founded by Dr. D.G. Benakappa, which was handed over to the Government of Karnataka and later renamed. Established in 1991 and expanded in phases, it became a functional referral hospital by 1995, growing into a Paediatric Multi Super-speciality tertiary care hospital. IGICH provides postgraduate training in Paediatrics (MD/DCh) and Paediatric Surgery (MCh), along with fellowship programmes in various paediatric sub-specialities, and conducts research and scientific meetings in child health.
