Dyal Singh College

Dyal Singh College is a co-educational institute affiliated with the University of Delhi, established in 1959. It functions as a constituent college under the South Campus of Delhi University and is considered a top-ranked college there, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs in science, humanities, and commerce. The college is centrally located at Lodhi Road, New Delhi, near landmarks such as Lodhi Gardens, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Safdarjung Tomb, and Humayun's Tomb, and is well connected via the Delhi Metro's Violet Line and Delhi Transport Corporation buses. Its origins trace back to the estate of Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, founder of The Tribune and Punjab National Bank, who in 1895 willed his estate to establish a secular educational trust. The original Dyal Singh College was founded in Lahore in 1910, and after the Partition of India, new colleges were established in Karnal and Delhi. The Delhi college began functioning at Rouse Avenue from 5 August 1959 and moved to its present location on 16 October 1962. It was taken over by the University of Delhi as a university-maintained institution in 1978. The college offers courses across eighteen departments, including Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, English, History, Physics, and Political Science. In 2024, it was ranked 34th among colleges in India by the NIRF.
