SHAILABALA WOMEN'S AUTONOMOUS COLLEGE

Shailabala Women's College, also called S.B. Women's College, is a state-run postgraduate, undergraduate, and junior +2 women's government college situated on Madhusudan Road in Cuttack, India. It holds the distinction of being the first women's college established in Odisha. The institution was named after Shailabala Das, who donated her home to serve as the college building for running intermediate and degree courses. She was recognized for her contributions toward women's education and social upliftment in Odisha, and was the daughter of political leader Madhusudan Das, known for his role in Odisha's social and industrial development during the British Raj and for Utkal Divas. The college offers postgraduate Master of Arts (M.A.) courses in Home Science, History, and Sanskrit, along with undergraduate Science (B.Sc) and Arts (B.A.) degrees. It is maintained by the Department of Higher Education, Odisha, and is affiliated with Utkal University for its undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, and with the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha, for classes 11 and 12 in science, arts, and vocational courses. Dr. Gayatri Biswal serves as the principal. Notable alumni include Jayanti Patnaik, Prabhat Nalini Das, Barsha Priyadarshini, and Aparajita Choudhury.
