Dumkal College

Dumkal College was founded on 21 September 1999 by order of the Government of West Bengal in Domkal, Murshidabad. It began functioning with a small number of students, initially holding classes at B.T High School, Dumkal. It is a co-education college, the only one in the locality offering all three streams—Arts, Science, and Commerce—from its inception. The college is affiliated to the University of Kalyani and is located in Basantapur, a remote village near the Indo-Bangladesh border, connected by road to Dumkal Bus Stand, Berhampore, and Jalangi. It offers departments in Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Bengali, Commerce, Economics, English, Geography, History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Sanskrit. Facilities include a library, laboratories for science subjects, sports facilities, academic tours, scholarships, a canteen, common rooms, a students' health home, a college magazine, and participation in the National Service Scheme (NSS) under Kalyani University. The college also provides free and half-free studentship for meritorious but economically weaker students. Dumkal College has been awarded a 'B' grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
