CENTRAL INSTITUTE OF PETROCHEMICALS ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

The Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology, formerly the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET), is an autonomous institution functioning under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. It was established in 1968 at Chennai in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Labor Organization (ILO). The institute was founded to develop skilled manpower in various disciplines of Plastics Engineering and Technology, as no similar institute existed in the country at the time. Today, CIPET operates 43 operational centres across the country, with nine more centres in the process of establishment, catering to the needs of the polymer and allied industries. CIPET offers specialized academic and skill development training programs in Polymer Science and Technology, aiming to create qualified human resources with entrepreneurial qualities for the polymer and allied industries. It also provides technology support through consultancy services in design, tooling, plastics processing, testing, and quality assurance, along with dedicated research and development wings for new polymeric materials and applications. Admission to CIPET's centers is conducted through a joint entrance examination held annually.
