PATLIPUTRA UNIVERSITY, PATNA

Patliputra University (PPU) is a collegiate public state university in Patna, Bihar, India, established in 2018 by the Government of Bihar through the bifurcation of Magadh University. It holds jurisdiction over colleges in the Patna and Nalanda districts, excluding those affiliated with Patna University. As a collegiate university, its functions are divided between university departments and affiliated institutions. The university's headquarters is located at Kankarbagh, Patna, operating from a Magadh University branch office, while a permanent campus is being developed near Bakhtiyarpur, and a postgraduate campus is planned at BS College, Danapur. The university began academic operations in the 2018–19 academic year, initially offering the same programmes as Magadh University, with plans to launch its own postgraduate departments in science, commerce, and arts. The Governor of Bihar serves as chancellor, with Upendra Prasad Singh as vice-chancellor and Ganesh Mahto as pro-vice-chancellor as of September 2025. The university has faced controversies, including a 2018 investigation into misconduct allegations against its registrar, and a 2019 protest at JD Women's College over plans to admit male postgraduate students.
