Moti Lal Nehru Medical College

Moti Lal Nehru Medical College (MLNMC) is a government medical college and hospital in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India, established in memory of Motilal Nehru, father of Jawaharlal Nehru. The idea for a medical college in Allahabad dates back to a promise made by the British Government in 1854, later reiterated by Motilal Nehru during a 1904 deputation to Viceroy Lord Curzon. The college was formally inaugurated on 5 May 1961 by President Dr. Rajendra Prasad, using the premises of the former British District Jail at South Malaka, where Motilal Nehru had once been imprisoned. In 1963, the Government House, formerly the residence of the Governor of the United Province, was acquired for the college, while the jail premises became Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, named after Motilal Nehru's wife. The college is affiliated to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University and offers MBBS, MD, MS, PG Diploma, and DM courses, with an MBBS intake of 200 students per year. Under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), the institute was upgraded along AIIMS lines, including construction of a 233-bed Super-Speciality block. Notable alumni include Dr Ajay Khanna, Dr Sanjay Pratap Singh, and Dr Sumita Deodhar.
