INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT,MUMBAI
IIM Mumbai, originally established in 1963 as the National Institute for Training in Industrial Engineering (NITIE) with assistance from the UNDP and ILO, is located in Powai near Vihar Lake, Mumbai. Registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, it functioned for decades as NITIE before being converted into an IIM. Following recommendations from industrialists and a government committee, the Union Cabinet approved renaming NITIE as IIM Mumbai on 12 July 2023, with the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2023 receiving presidential assent on 11 August 2023, making it the 21st IIM. The campus includes a library relocated in 2016, an auditorium, sports facilities, a Financial Research and Trading Lab with a Bloomberg Terminal, and various labs for CAD/CAM, SAP, and simulations. Academically, it offers full-time MBA programs in General Management, Operations, Wealth Management, Supply Chain Management, and Sustainability Management, along with postgraduate diplomas and doctoral Fellow Programs since 1980. It also runs Management Development Programs for over 2000 professionals annually. IIM Mumbai is ranked 6th among Indian management schools by NIRF in 2024 and 2025, and student life includes around 30 committees organizing events like Avartan and Sansmaran.
