ICAR- Indian Institute of Pulses Research

The Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR), known in Hindi as भारतीय दलहन अनुसन्धान संस्थान, is a government institute located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. It was established in 1983 by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to carry out basic, strategic, and applied research on major pulse crops. The institute is situated on Grand Trunk Road, approximately twelve kilometers from Kanpur Central Railway Station towards New Delhi. Its origins trace back to the All India Coordinated Pulses Improvement Project (AICPIP), started at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi in 1966. In 1978, its headquarters were shifted to the then Regional Station of IARI at Kanpur, where it was renamed the Project Directorate (Pulses). It was further elevated to the Directorate of Pulses Research (DPR) in 1984 and became an independent entity under the direct control of ICAR. The Institute is responsible for developing appropriate production and protection technologies, producing and supplying breeder seeds of improved varieties, demonstrating and transferring technologies, and strategically coordinating pulse research through a network of testing centers across the country.
