ODISHA UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS) is a public state medical university in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, established on 5 March 2023 under the Odisha University of Health Sciences Act, 2021, passed by the Odisha Legislative Assembly on 3 September 2021. It was created to bring uniformity to medical education, training, and research in modern medicine, homeopathy, Ayurveda, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, and laboratory and radiation technology, areas previously governed disparately by general universities. The university began functioning from a temporary building at Sishu Bhawan Square, Bhubaneswar, with plans for a permanent campus of about 25 acres on the city's periphery. In May 2023, the Odisha State Cabinet approved ₹330.17 crore for its establishment. The Governor of Odisha serves as chancellor, and Dr. Datteswar Hota, former dean and principal of SCB Medical College and Hospital, was appointed as the first vice-chancellor. OUHS is an affiliating university with jurisdiction over more than 200 medical and paramedical colleges across Odisha, including government and private institutions in allopathy, Ayurveda, homeopathy, dentistry, and pharmacy. It began offering PhD courses from the 2024 academic session and has signed multiple MoUs with national and international bodies to improve medical education and research.
