Jhanji Hemnath Sarma College

Jhanji Hemnath Sarma College is situated in Jhanji, Sivasagar, Assam, India, and was established on 25 July 1964 by educated members of the Jhanji community, including Hemnath Sarma, with the aim of bringing higher education to the economically backward agricultural belt of Jhanji. Initially named Jhanji College, it was inaugurated by scholar and linguist Jogiraj Basu. The college is affiliated with Dibrugarh University and recognized by the University Grants Commission. It offers a two-year higher secondary course in Arts and Commerce under AHSEC, B.A. and B.Com. semester system courses under Dibrugarh University, computer courses, and postgraduate courses. Humanities departments include Assamese, Economics, Education, English, History, Political Science, Philosophy, Geography, Sanskrit, and Sociology, along with a Commerce stream. Facilities include on-campus hostels for boys and girls, an internet centre offering short-term computer courses, a library with over 17,000 books, furnished classrooms, and a canteen. The college publishes several magazines, including ABHIJATRI, SWARNASMRITI, YATRA, AVAGUNTHAN, KALLOLINI, and UTTARAN. Notable alumni include Lalit Chandra Rajkhowa, Shyamkanu Mahanta, Debeswar Borah, and Ajit Kumar Bhuyan.
