Regional College of Education

The Regional Institute of Education (RIE), formerly known as Regional College of Education, is a constituent unit of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi. The Regional Institutes of Education were established in 1963 by the Government of India in different parts of the country to improve the quality of school education through innovative pre-service and in-service teacher education programmes, along with research, development, and extension activities. According to the text, RIEs are located in Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, and Mysore, catering to pre-service and in-service teacher education needs in their respective regions, while the North-East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE) in Shillong serves the North-Eastern States. Each RIE (except NERIE) has an attached Demonstration Multipurpose School used for teacher training and as a model school. RIE Bhubaneswar offers various courses including integrated B.Sc./B.A.-B.Ed. programmes, M.Ed., and M.Phil in Education, and is a nodal centre for Education under Utkal University. RIEs are affiliated with nearby universities for certification purposes, such as RIE Ajmer's affiliation with Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University. The text does not mention any RIE location in Gaya, Bihar.
