Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Howrah

Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, formerly Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University, is a deemed-to-be-university headquartered at Belur, West Bengal, administered by the Ramakrishna Mission. It was established to actualize Swami Vivekananda's vision of education and was declared a de novo Deemed University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in 2005. The institute began functioning in July 2005 with a branch at the Specialized Faculty Centre in Coimbatore focused on Disability Management and Special Education. The following year, branches were added at Narendrapur, Ranchi, and Kolkata (Simla, the ancestral residence of Swami Vivekananda, now under the Belur main campus). Swami Atmapriyananda served as the first Vice-Chancellor from 2005 to 2020, later becoming Pro-chancellor. Two additional schools were established at the main campus: the School of Mathematical Sciences, covering mathematics, theoretical physics, and theoretical computer science; and the School of Indian Heritage, covering Sanskrit studies, ancient Indian heritage, and Vedanta. In 2019, the institute was accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council with an A++ grade. Notable faculty include Mahan Maharaj and Narasimhaiengar Mukunda, both recipients of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize.
