JUSTICE BASHEER AHMED SAYEED COLLEGE FOR WOMEN

The Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women, originally known as S.I.E.T Women's College, was established in 1955 to provide higher education to women. It is maintained by the Southern India Education Trust and was founded by Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed, a lawyer who became a Judge at the Madras High Court in 1959. He believed that educating women from economically and socially backward communities was the best service to society, which led to the college's founding. In 1951, he also helped establish the Boys' College, now known as 'The New College'. The college offers a wide range of undergraduate programs including Historical Studies, Political Science, Corporate Economics, English Literature, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Nutrition, Psychology, Commerce, Computer Science, and more. Postgraduate courses are available in subjects such as English Literature, Applied Psychology, Zoology, Home Science, Commerce, Mathematics, and Computer Science, along with M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs in various disciplines. Notable alumni include Daggubati Purandeswari, Bhuvana Natarajan, Sivasankari, Uma Ramanan, Riythvika, and V. J. Chitra.
