Diamond Harbour Government Medical College and Hospital

Diamond Harbour Government Medical College and Hospital is a full-fledged tertiary referral government medical college. Its history began in December 1974 under the name Diamond Harbour Sub-divisional Hospital. In April 2012, it was converted into Diamond Harbour District Hospital with 300 beds, and was later renamed Diamond Harbour Government Medical College. The college offers the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree along with postgraduate courses, as well as nursing and para-medical courses. It is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and is recognized by the National Medical Commission. The Diamond Harbour District Hospital and a Super Speciality Hospital are associated with the medical college. Admission to the college is based strictly on merit through the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET). As of 2022, the yearly undergraduate student intake is 150, though the college initially started its MBBS course with an intake of 100 seats. Postgraduate courses are recognized by the NBEMS and NMC, and postgraduate students are admitted through the NEET-PG examination, held annually in January.
