BHUBANANANDA ODISHA SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING

Bhubanananda Odisha School of Engineering (BOSE) is located in Cuttack, Odisha, India, and is the oldest diploma engineering school in the state. It traces its origins to the Cuttack Survey School established in 1876, the first technical school in Odisha, which was later renamed Orissa School of Engineering and formally established in 1923 under the Bihar-Orissa Government after Bihar School of Engineering was elevated to Bihar Engineering College. The institute initially offered civil engineering, later adding mechanical and electrical engineering. During World War II, it trained over 1000 war technicians, demobilized soldiers, and industrial trainees, and served as a center of war efforts in the Eastern Region, with Viceroy Lord Wavell visiting during the war. In 1971, diversified courses were introduced under a semester system. Today, the institute offers three-year diploma courses in nine disciplines, including civil, electrical, mechanical, electronics and telecommunication, automobile, computer science, information technology, applied electronics and instrumentation, and automation and robotics engineering. It also has a Mathematics and Science Department. The 44-acre campus, near the River Mahanadi, includes hostels, staff quarters, a playground, and is shared with the Biju Pattnaik Film and TV Institute of Orissa.
