Patna Medical College
Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) is located on the southern bank of the river Ganges in Patna, the capital of Bihar, India. Established in 1925, it was originally known as Prince of Wales Medical College, and before that as Temple Medical School, founded in 1874. It is affiliated with Bihar University of Health Sciences, having previously been affiliated with Patna University and Aryabhatta Knowledge University. The college is situated on Ashok Rajpath, alongside other Patna University institutions. PMCH has more than 1,748 beds, comparable to AIIMS, with an emergency ward called IGCE (Indira Gandhi Central Emergency) offering an additional 220 beds. It is among the busiest hospitals in India, with one of the highest average daily outpatient loads. The Patna Airport is about 10–11 km away, Patna Junction railway station is around 5 km away, and Gandhi Maidan Bus Stand is 2 km from the campus. PMCH is currently being upgraded into a 5,462-bed hospital under a Bihar government-approved project worth Rs 5,540 crore, which will increase MBBS seats from 150 to 250 and PG seats from 146 to 200. The new PMCH will also be connected to the Patna Metro through the upcoming PMCH metro station.
