GOLAGHAT ENGINEERING COLLEGE

Golaghat Engineering College was established in 2018 by the Assam Government in Golaghat district, Assam. The foundation stone was laid on 31 March 2012 by then Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, and the college was officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on 5 February 2019. It began offering B.Tech degrees from the 2018–19 academic year and is accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The institution is affiliated with Assam Science and Technology University and is the sixth state government engineering college in Assam. Academically, it offers four-year B.Tech degrees in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, along with non-engineering subjects such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Humanities. Admissions for undergraduate courses are conducted through the Assam Combined Entrance Examination (CEE), while lateral entry admissions use the Joint Lateral Entrance Examination (JLEE), both administered by Assam Science and Technology University. In May 2019, the college faced controversy when AICTE denied it approval due to failure to meet 17 eligibility criteria, including lack of a permanent principal and faculty members, alongside resource shortages. Despite this setback, the 92 students already enrolled were permitted to continue their studies.
