The University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad (UASD) is a state agriculture university established by the Government of Karnataka to provide education, research and extension services in agriculture, forestry, food science, agricultural marketing and home science. Its roots trace to the College of Agriculture, Dharwad, founded on 22 May 1947 at Hebballi Farm under the Bombay Province, later affiliated with Karnataka University in 1950. In 1965 it became a constituent college of the newly formed University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (UASB), during which time the College of Home Science (1974), a B.Sc. in Agricultural Marketing and Cooperation (1976), and a Forestry department (1985) were added. In 1986, the Government of Karnataka enacted legislation to bifurcate UASB, officially establishing UAS Dharwad on 1 October 1986. The university now has jurisdiction over seven districts: Dharwad, Belagavi, Gadag, Haveri, Uttara Kannada, Bagalkote, and Vijayapura. It comprises five constituent colleges, including the College of Agriculture, Dharwad; College of Community Sciences, Dharwad; College of Agriculture, Vijayapur; College of Agriculture, Hanumanamatti; and College of Forestry, Sirsi. The university also runs 27 research stations, 6 agricultural extension education centers, 6 Krishi Vigyan Kendras, and an Agricultural Technology Information Center (ATIC).
