Maharaja Bir Bikram College

Maharaja Bir Bikram College (MBB College) is a degree college in Agartala, Tripura, offering general education in Science, Commerce and Humanities streams. It is the oldest college in the state, established on 9 September 1947. The college was founded by Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur, the last king of Tripura, who had planned a college at Agartala as early as 1937 on land named 'Vidyapattan'. Construction began in 1937 but was halted during World War II when the site was converted into an army hospital for the British Army. The college began functioning in 1947 to serve students who had migrated to Tripura from erstwhile East Pakistan, after the then Regent, Kanchan Prava Devi, secured affiliation with the University of Calcutta for IA, ISC, BA and BCOM examinations. The campus covers over 254 acres, including college faculties and a central library. The college's motto is 'Vidyayamrtamasnute', meaning 'Knowledge is the key to immortality'. It offers departments across Arts, Social Science, Biological Science, Physical Science, and Commerce groups, covering subjects such as Bengali, English, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, History, and Commerce.
