Government Institute of Textile Chemistry and Knitting Technology (GITC&KT) is a government polytechnic college situated in Ludhiana, Punjab, affiliated with the Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Chandigarh, India. Its history dates back to 1916, when it began as the Government Dyeing School within the premises of the Government Central Weavery in Lahore. In 1923, after the addition of Calico Printing, it was renamed the Government Institute of Dyeing and Calico Printing, based at Foreman Christian College, Shahdara, near Lahore (now in Pakistan). In 1967, the institute was upgraded to a polytechnic and renamed Government Institute of Textile Chemistry and Knitting Technology, Ludhiana. The present institute represents an amalgamation of two earlier institutions—the Government Hosiery Institute, Ludhiana (established 1926) and the Government Institute of Dyeing and Calico Printing, Ludhiana (established 1923)—both located on the same premises. Initially based in the Old Fort near Daresi Ground, Ludhiana, the college later shifted to a new address. It offers diploma and certificate courses mainly in Textile Processing and Textile Technology (Knitting). Notable alumni include Jatinder Mauhar.
