GOVERNMENT COLLEGE OF NURSING, KOLLAM

Government Medical College, Kollam, originally known as ESIC Medical College, Parippally, was built by the Employees State Insurance Corporation as its second such project in India and the first medical college of its kind in Kerala. Inaugurated in December 2013 by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, the institution was the largest medical college in Kerala in terms of buildings, comprising 33 blocks and 500 beds. Due to funding concerns, the ESI Corporation later withdrew from the project, and the Kerala Government took over the institution in 2016. Staff appointments were completed under the LDF government, allowing the first MBBS batch to begin in 2016-17. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan formally inaugurated the renamed Kollam Government Medical College on 14 August 2016. The college is located at Parippally, a southern border town of Kollam district, about 21 km south of Kollam city. It offers MBBS, postgraduate medical degrees, and a diploma in medical laboratory technology. The campus spans 33 acres with 28 buildings covering about 1,33,000 square meters. The first batch of medical students began classes on 23 August 2017, inaugurated by Health Minister K. K. Shailaja.
