Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya, Burdwan

Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya was established in 1966 and is regarded as one of the oldest colleges in Haripal, located in the Hooghly district of West Bengal, India. The institution offers undergraduate courses in arts, commerce, and sciences, and it is affiliated to the University of Burdwan. The college's origins trace back to 1963, when Pandit Dharanath Bhattacharya, an eminent freedom fighter, founded a society called Vivekananda Samsad to promote the socio-cultural and educational upliftment of the local community. Building on this initiative, the college itself was formally established on 8 August 1966. Academically, the college offers programs in MBA and M.Tech, as well as science subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, and Botany. In the arts and commerce streams, it offers Bengali, English, Sanskrit, Santali, History, Geography, Political Science, Philosophy, Education, and Commerce. The college is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and was previously accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a B grade, though this accreditation has since expired.
