Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is a public law school and National Law University established under the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003, located in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat, about 23 kilometers north of Ahmedabad. It was formed through efforts of Solicitor General Kirit Raval, Chief Minister Narendra Modi, and the Bar Council of India, becoming the sixth National Law University in India, modeled on NLSIU Bangalore. Prof. V.S. Mani was its first Director, followed by Prof. Bimal N. Patel. In 2012, GNLU moved to a new 50-acre campus in Gandhinagar's Knowledge Corridor. Admissions, for undergraduate and postgraduate programs, are based on CLAT scores, with an extremely low acceptance rate. The university follows a two-semester curriculum emphasizing research, mooting, and foreign language study. GNLU publishes several law journals, hosts numerous research centres covering diverse legal fields, and operates a Legal Incubation Centre to support legal entrepreneurship. It also houses the Indian Legal History Museum, the first of its kind in India, showcasing India's legal heritage across three floors. GNLU has been ranked among India's top law schools by India Today and NIRF.
