COEP Technological University

COEP Technological University, located in Pune, Maharashtra, traces its origins to 1854 when it was founded as the Poona Engineering and Mechanical School to train Public Works Department officials. Over the decades it underwent several name changes, becoming the Poona Civil Engineering College in 1865, The College of Science in 1879, and the Government College of Engineering, Poona in 1911. It began offering a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1909, with mechanical and electrical engineering degrees added in 1912 and 1932. Affiliated first with the University of Bombay and later the University of Poona, the institute gained full autonomy from the Maharashtra state government in 2003, renaming itself the Pune Institute of Engineering and Technology, then College of Engineering, Pune in 2006, with permanent affiliation to Savitribai Phule Pune University. In 2022, the Maharashtra government passed legislation converting the college into an independent unitary technological university. The campus spans 36 acres in Pune, divided into North Campus, South Campus, Hostel campus, and Playground, with an additional 40-acre campus in Chikhali, PCMC, for research. Admissions to undergraduate programs are conducted via Maharashtra CET and HSC marks through the Centralized Admission Process, while postgraduate admissions rely on GATE scores.
