Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) is a public law school situated in Patiala, Punjab, India. It is one of the 27 National Law Universities in the country and was established under Punjab Act No. 12 of 2006, enacted by the Punjab Legislative Assembly, as a university dedicated to legal education. RGNUL is affiliated to the UGC and approved by the Bar Council of India, functioning as an autonomous law school. The Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court serves as the de facto Chancellor of the university, while Prof. (Dr.) Gurjit Singh was its first vice-chancellor; the institution is currently headed by Prof. (Dr.) Jai Shankar Singh. RGNUL began functioning on 26 May 2006 at Mohindra Kothi, The Mall, Patiala, before shifting in 2013 to its permanent 50-acre campus in Sidhuwal, about 12 km from Patiala. The university offers a 5-year B.A. LL.B (Honours) programme with an intake of 180 seats, a 1-year LL.M. programme with 80 seats, and Ph.D programmes, with admissions conducted through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). In 2023, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked RGNUL 9th among law colleges in India.
