Alagappa College of Technology, located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, is an educational institution offering higher education in engineering, technology, and allied sciences. It was founded in 1944 through funds donated by philanthropist Dr. Alagappa Chettiar to Dr. A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar, Vice Chancellor of Madras University. In appreciation, Madras University named the college after him and awarded him an honorary LL.D. degree. In 1978, the college was integrated with the newly formed Anna University as a constituent part within its Guindy Campus. The college comprises six departments and two autonomous centres: the Department of Chemical Engineering, Department of Applied Science and Technology, Department of Textile Technology, Center for Bio-Technology, Department of Ceramic Technology, Department of Leather Technology, and the autonomous Crystal Growth Centre and Centre for Nanoscience and Technology. These departments offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in fields such as chemical engineering, textile and apparel technology, biotechnology, food technology, pharmaceutical technology, ceramic technology, and nanoscience. Research areas include bioprocesses, environmental systems, molecular biology, and nanotechnology. The Department of Chemical Engineering also hosts an annual technical festival called Chemfluence, featuring paper presentations, lectures, and technical quizzes.
