KERALA STATE INSTITUTE OF DESIGN
Kerala State Institute of Design (KSID) is a design institute under the Department of Labour and Skills, Government of Kerala, situated at Chandanathope, on the outskirts of Kollam city. Established in 2008 with support from NID Ahmedabad, it is one of the first state-owned design institutes in India. NID Ahmedabad provides faculty development and curriculum development support for KSID's design programmes. The institute currently conducts Post Graduate Diploma Programs in Design, developed in association with the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, in three domains: Integrated Lifestyle Product Design, Integrated Textile and Apparel Design, and IT Integrated Communication Design. KSID was established to create a vibrant design community in Kerala through partnership between artisans, professional designers, and the public. It was merged with the Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE) on 1 April 2014, the apex agency for skill development in Kerala. KSID is affiliated to AICTE and APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), and offers a four-year Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programme with 30 seats per batch. The Design Intervention Centre, an arm of KSID, offers advisory and support services in design and conducts research. In November 2018, plans were announced to collaborate further with NID Ahmedabad, with the Government of Kerala sanctioning 9 crores for future development.
