HAMIDIA HOSPITAL BHOPAL

Hamidia Hospital is a multispeciality tertiary care teaching hospital in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, affiliated to Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal. It was earlier known as Prince of Wales King Edwards Memorial Hospital for Men. Before 1927, it was a small hospital with 25 beds located in a building that now houses the city Kotwali. Over the next 22 years, its bed strength gradually increased, and it was relocated to its present venue. By 1949, before the merger of the Bhopal State, it had 175 beds. In 1953, the hospital's present building inside Fort Fatehgath was occupied, and in 1956 a new three-storeyed surgical wing with two modern operation theatres and a new medical ward were added, raising the bed count to 525. Hamidia Hospital played a crucial role in emergency response and care after the Bhopal disaster. The hospital now has expansion plans to create a state-of-the-art multi-speciality 'Smart Medi-City' with 2000 beds, a medical college with an intake of 250 students, and residential quarters for staff, designed as a LEED Platinum Green rated complex overlooking the Grand Lake.
